Scholarship: Study Support

Methodists have contributed greatly to education in Britain, and throughout the world.  Schools, universities, theological and Bible Colleges have been established and individuals have become leading thinkers in a broad range of disciplines.

Today the church still encourages the Methodist people to think through our faith, part of this being done through higher education.  There are a number of ways in which the church seeks to help this.

Scholarship: Journals and Research papers

Methodism and related bodies produce a number of peer reviewed journals that contain a great wealth of Methodist and Wesleyan scholarship.  This list, which hopefully remains a work in progress, highlights a number of these resources from the British Isles, and a number from the USA.  Most are open access via the internet, enabling the riches of this scholarship to be very widely accessible.

Scholarship Opportunity

The John Rylands Research Institute and the Manchester Wesley Research Centre (MWRC) are inviting applications to their joint visiting research fellow programme.

The application deadline is 5pm (GMT) Monday 15 January 2018

The six week fellowship will facilitate scholarly access to the internationally renowned Methodist Archives held at the John Rylands Library in Manchester and the MWRC and Nazarene Theological College (NTC) library. Proposed research activity should be primarily focused on the Special Collections of the University of Manchester Library and should relate broadly to Methodist/Wesleyan studies.

Applicants, whether or not in an established academic position, should hold a doctorate at the time of application. Applications are welcomed from scholars both in the UK and worldwide.

Further details and the application form can be found on the John Rylands Research Institute website:
