Safeguarding News Update

New Registered Body Announcement and Roll-out Plan

We would like to announce that DDC (Due Diligence Checking Ltd.) are our new Registered Body that will be processing all DBS / PVG application for the Methodist Church.

All users (excluding lay verifiers) will receive an email with login details and a quick start guide. DDC will follow up with a call to District Safeguarding Officers, District Chairs and Superintendent Ministers to allow for any queries on the system.

Follow this link for the roll out plan of when to expect contact from DDC: Rollout plan

A few points to take note of with the new system:

  • Lay verifiers will be added onto the system by the ministers who wish them to verify on their behalf. In this way lay verifiers can easily be added onto the system and information can also be easily kept up to date.
  • All DBS applications will be done electronically.
  • PVG (Scotland) applications will still be paper based.

During this transition period all new DBS applications should be done through DDC following the rollout date in each district. However there will be a short period of overlap to allow for all districts to come online and therefore Churches Agency for Safeguarding will continue to accept new DBS applications from the Methodist Church until Friday 17th November 2017.

Best wishes

Change of Registered Body for DBS/PVG Check

Dear Colleague

Following the notification that the Churches Agency for Safeguarding (CAS) will be ceasing to trade at the end of this calendar year, members of the Connexional team supported by District Safeguarding Officers, have undergone a competitive procurement process to appoint a new registered body for carrying out Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) checks, PVG Checks and the additional security checks as necessary for the Methodist Church.

This contract will support the undertaking of best safeguarding practice in line with the Methodist Church Safeguarding Policy. This service provides a significant opportunity to churches to ensure that a quality, well-managed online service can be provided at a very competitive cost as well as having the capacity to respond to any future changes the government may make to the DBS/PVG scheme.

Further details will be sent next month about the new provider, training on the new system and the new process. A cut-off date for applications to be done through CAS will also be confirmed. We are planning to roll out in one of the districts next month with the rest following soon after. As we know there will be a handover period if you are aware of any checks due between now and the end of the year it is advisable that you do this as soon as you can.

Best wishes
