In a beautiful corner of Suffolk is a military base with hundreds of young women and men. Busy about their daily routines, they are exercising, training, and deploying in defence of the realm.
In the striving for excellence, and the inevitable fallout when things don’t go to plan, are spaces of care and reflection created by the chaplaincy team.
The Methodist Church has helped to initiate one of these spaces – a simple meal with a thought for reflection which takes place after work.
It communicates to Armed Forces personnel, the civilian workforce and dependants that there is room for everyone, even if they are far from the rhythms of the church. "I lost my faith a while ago, but God found me here", said one person who attends.
It is a powerful reminder that not all who wander are lost.
