Fringe highlights: MPs debate the future of politics; Doreen Lawrence discusses reconciliation

Politicians and Methodists will debate the question, "Do we have faith in the future of politics?" during this year's annual Methodist Conference in London. Dr Stella Creasy MP (Labour), Sarah Teather MP (Lib Dem) and John Glen (Conservative) will on the panel for this year's Beckly Lecture hosted in the House of Commons (Committee Room 10) at 8pm on 8 July.

The Methodist Conference opened in London today with the inauguration of the Revd Ruth Gee as President. In her inaugural address to the Conference, the Revd Ruth Gee spoke of a Church waiting expectantly for glimpses of God’s glory.

Methodist Conference hears call for exam stress relief

Following an enthusiastic debate, the Methodist Conference has voted for resolutions calling for better understanding of exam stress faced by young people. The resolutions, brought by the Children and Youth Assembly, also called for space in churches for children and young people to raises issues without fear of being judged.

Making £1 billion count - ethical investment discussed at the Methodist Conference

The Methodist Church's ethical investment advisory body has revised its position on alcohol, among other issues. The Joint Advisory Committee on the Ethics of Investment (JACEI) advises the Church's Central Finance Board, which has about £1 billion invested on behalf of Methodist churches and other bodies.
