A new relationship has formed

26 October 2023

The Chaplain General to His Majesty’s Land Forces, the Revd Canon Michael Parker KHC CF, a Methodist chaplain, has met her Majesty The Queen after her appointment as Patron of the Royal Army Chaplain’s Department. They met at Buckingham Palace for their first, introductory meeting in August 2023.

With the Armed Forces and Royal Army Chaplains having a long-standing relationship with the royal family, they were honoured that The Queen would continue her role as their Patron following the passing of Her Late Majesty The Queen.

Since 1945, chaplains have served British soldiers and deliver pastoral care, spiritual support and guidance to the force and their families

Canon Parker, who was appointed as Chaplain General in May 2022, said I know I speak on behalf of all Army chaplains in welcoming the appointment of Her Majesty The Queen as Patron Royal Army Chaplains’ Department. Service of others is at the heart of the chaplain’s unique position and I look forward to Her Majesty’s support in helping to care for those who, in turn, care for others.”
