Christians speak out against Westboro Baptist's Hatred

Six Christian organisations and denominations have produced ajoint statement in response to the proposed visit of WestboroBaptist Church to picket in the UK. A joint statementfollows.

"We are dismayed that members of Westboro Baptist Church (based inKansas, USA and not associated with the Baptist Union of GreatBritain) might picket the performance of The Laramie Project inBasingstoke on Friday.

"We do not share their hatred of lesbian and gay people. We believethat God loves all, irrespective of sexual orientation, and weunreservedly stand against their message of hate toward thosecommunities.

"Neither the style nor substance of their preaching expresses thehistoric, orthodox Christian faith. And we ask that the members ofWestboro Baptist Church refrain from stirring up any morehomophobic hatred in the UK or elsewhere."
