Former Methodist President dies

It is with regret that the Methodist Church announces that theRev A Kingsley Lloyd, former President of the Methodist Conferencein Britain, died on Saturday 24 January, at the age of 100.

The Rev A Kingsley Lloyd had been the eldest surviving formerPresident, having chaired Methodism's governing body at its 1964Conference in Sheffield, the highlight of a long and distinguishedcareer.

Mr Lloyd was born in Dudley on 2 November 1903, and educated atKingswood School and Richmond. His ministerial appointmentsincluded London Harrow (1926-29), London Kilburn and Hampstead(1929-31), Bedford (1931-36), London Finsbury Park (1936-39),Biggleswade (1939-44), Cambridge (1944-47) and London Enfield(1947-52).

Between 1952-69 he served the British Methodist Church in theDepartment for Connexional Funds, where he was instrumental inestablishing national systems for pensions, housing and centralfinance to support the work of ministers and churches. He retiredto Royston, Hertfordshire, in 1969.
