New Methodist Youth President 2018-19 announced

Jasmine Yeboah, 22, from north London, has been elected as the new Methodist Youth President-designate. She was elected at this year's 3Generate event, attended by more than 1,000 young Methodists supported by 500 leaders and volunteers, that took place over the weekend of the 24 - 26 November in Southport.

Jasmine was one of three candidates who stood for election, with all taking part in hustings and producing promotional videos and displays as part of their campaigns.

Jasmine's campaign focused on how young people can be courageous in how they live out the gospel and how they can create a Church where the vulnerable feel welcomed. She commented: "I do a lot of youth work at my church, St Mark's Methodist Church in Tottenham, and it was my minister who persuaded me to sign up and get myself nominated. I am so excited and looking forward to taking up the post next year.

"I want all people, regardless of background or age, to see the Methodist Church as somewhere they can call their home, especially the vulnerable. I want our young people to be courageous for Christ and for them to have the confidence to step outside their comfort zone and do something exciting, to be themselves but to be different. I will dare them to be courageous."

The current Youth President, Michael Pryke, commented: "Sincere congratulations to Jasmine. She is an inspirational young woman with great enthusiasm for children and young people and making their voice heard. 

"She is going to make an excellent Youth President and I thoroughly look forward to seeing her bringing her fabulous gifts and talents to the role. I would also like to congratulate those who have been successful in their application to become a 3Generate Representative (to the Methodist Conference) and I look forward to working with them too.

"I would ask that we hold the other candidates in our thoughts, prayers and hearts and I thank them for their zeal and passion to go for such positions. I wish them the best in their mission and ministry."

Jasmine will begin her role next summer, taking over from Michael in September 2018.
