President's statement on Damilola Taylor

This is a horrible killing and a tragic death. That a ten yearold child should be killed in this way on the way home from schoolis every parent's nightmare. Violence of this kind must be broughtto an end. We all have a responsibility to ensure that children aresafe from all danger and harm. We must challenge violent behaviourand violence wherever we see it. We cannot pass by or ignoreviolence - if we do we collude with it. My sympathy goes toDamilola 's family. I will visit them to express solidarity and toshare their sorrow.
