Take a Glimpse of the Word...

A new booklet, entitled Glimpses of the Word, offers readers aninspiring collection of images, prayers and reflections on theBible. Readers are encouraged to listen to scripture and considerwhat God might be saying to them personally.

The booklet is designed as a starting-point to help people to getmore engaged with the Bible in their daily lives, in advance ofBiblefresh - the Year of the Bible in 2011. Readers will findcontributions from authors as diverse as Martin Luther, HelenKeller and Oscar Romero.

"The Bible is foundational for Christian faith," said Revd AlisonTomlin, President Designate of the Methodist Conference: "But oftenpeople feel that it is not easy to understand, or that it might nothave anything to say to them personally. I hope that people will beencouraged to find their own way of listening to God through whatthey find here, because I believe that God continues to seek adeepening relationship with all of us, no matter who we are."

It also features contributions from British Church leaders,including Revd Dr Martyn Atkins, General Secretary of the MethodistChurch, Commissioner Elizabeth Matear of the Salvation Army, RevdJonathan Edwards, General Secretary of the Baptist Union of GreatBritain, Revd John Marsh, Moderator of the United Reformed Church,The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr John Sentamu, Archbishopof York and The Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop ofWestminster.

Glimpses of the Word is ideal for personal or group reflection, butchurches are also encouraged to share its insights with theircommunities by giving the booklets away.
