The General Election
Methodist response to the General Election
The Revd Will Morrey, President of the Conference:
"In gaining a third term, the Government has won a notable andhistoric victory, but one that comes with greatly reduced supportand heavy expectations for change during the third term.
This election was marked by attempts to treat immigration andasylum as matters for political point scoring, rather than asserious and important topics. Too many other topics, includingglobal development, were hardly discussed at all. This was againsta background of increasing social division in Britain. Too manypeople are still excluded from playing a full part in the country'ssocial, political and economic life and Britain needs to play itsfull part in ending global poverty.
We hope that all the political parties will take more responsible, measured positions in the new parliament."
