The local parish council was looking for a site for allotments and now eight years after Wetheral Methodist Church in the Cumbria Methodist District offered their field, the plots are full of produce and wildlife.
Manure has been delivered annually and there are several compost bins on site so the earth has been improved year on year.
A wildlife pond has also been made at the bottom of the field where there was a 'wet spot'.
There’s a propagation tunnel for seedlings and tomato plants and the now redundant boiler house attached to the back of the church has been given to the allotmenteers for storage.
The allotments have even taken part in the local Open Gardens scheme.
