Interview

During the interview, the circuit assesses which early competencies an applicant meets. If the applicant is successful, this information will inform which early competencies may need further development during probation. The circuit should complete the Ministries Registration Form (LLP-Registration) and supply a copy to Ministries to register the successful applicant for training as a Local Lay-Pastor. This captures the successful applicant’s initial competency level and helps to focus training for the probation period.

Probation

During the probation period, the line-manager meets regularly with the Local Lay-Pastor to assess how they are learning and developing against the competencies. These conversations will help the Local Lay-Pastor to understand where they are doing well and where they might need further training or development. The probation line-management form is available to capture these meetings (LLP-LM-Probation).

When a Local Lay-Pastor has completed two Cliff College modules, the circuit conducts a Probation Assessment Meeting. The Local Lay-Pastor and their line-manager meet to review their practice against the early competencies. Line management meetings during the probation period are used to inform this meeting. The line-manager and Local Lay-Pastor complete the Probation Assessment Form (LLP-Probation) and provide a copy to Ministries.

Core Development

On completion of probation, the Local Lay-Pastor moves towards meeting all of the core competencies. The line-manager continues to meet regularly with the Local Lay-Pastor to assess development against the core competencies and how their learning at Cliff College is progressing. The core line-management form is available to capture these meetings (LLP-LM-Core).

Most of the core competencies are assessed through the six modules studied at Cliff College, but some are assessed solely by the circuit. The LLP Competencies (Assessment) Grid shows through which methods learning and assessment takes place.

Once all of the modules are completed, the circuit conducts the Accreditation Assessment Meeting. The Local Lay-Pastor and their line-manager meet to review their practice against the core competencies. Line management meetings from the core development period are used to inform this meeting. The line-manager and Local Lay-Pastor complete the Accreditation Assessment Form (LLP-Accreditation) and provide a copy to Ministries.

Continuing Development

The Circuit continues to support the Local Lay-Pastor in their development beyond initial accreditation through regular line-management meetings and an annual review. Two different forms are available to capture these meetings (LLP-LM-Continuing and LLP-AnnualReview). The Annual Review needs to be sent to Ministries: Vocations and Worship in the Connexional Team to capture ongoing development.

Continuing development might include developing specialisms which support ministry in the local context. The Local Lay-Pastor should keep a record of this to inform their Annual Review.
