Words from John Wesley

...we pray that we and all mankind may do the whole will of God in all things; and nothing else, not the least thing but what is the holy and acceptable will of God: We pray that we may do the whole will of God as he wills, in the manner that pleases him.

From ‘A Meditation on the Lord’s Prayer'

Words from Scripture

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Romans 12:2

Hymn

May the mind of Christ my Saviour, Singing the Faith 50

As we begin

To consider alone

  • Are you open to being “transformed by the renewing of your mind”?
  • How might that manifest itself in this meeting?

To consider together

  • If this group desires to “do the whole will of God in all things”, how will that influence how the agenda proceeds?
  • Take a few moments to “pray that we may do the whole will of God as he wills, in the manner that pleases him.”

As we continue

To consider alone

  • Where are you discerning what is ‘right’ in this meeting? When might you need to speak up, and when might you need to keep silent?

To consider together

  • As this group discerns the will of God together, where might you be tempted to “conform to the world” and where might you be invited to be “transformed by the renewing of your minds”?

As we finish

To consider alone

  • As the meeting comes to a close, can you discern your part in ensuring that this group “may do the whole will of God” as God “wills, in the manner that pleases” God?

To consider together

  • How will the work of this group bear witness to transformed and renewed thinking rather than being conformed to this world? What difference will this make to the Church and community?
