A Prayer for Hong Kong SAR
Mission Partner Eden Fletcher is in Hong Kong and has been witness to the mass protests there in recent days. These protests are to do with the changes to extradition laws and have brought thousands on to the streets. There have been violent clashes in some cases.
Eden says, ‘I am safe and well and things have calmed down considerably from Wednesday.
Though not directly on the protest route, I allowed the church to be used as a resting place for those leaving the protest, perhaps 40 or so took up the offer on Wednesday evening.
The events have been both shocking and a reminder that there remains much unrest amongst large sections of HK society, particularly the young, at the incursion of China into social and political life. People are full of suspicion at the ever present mainland.
I hope this helps you and we would very much value your prayers and the prayers of the British Methodist people for whom HK holds a very close connection and love.
Bless you and thank you,’

Eden has written a prayer that they will also use in the Hong Kong Methodist International Church. We can use it to direct our prayers for Hong Kong at this time.
A Prayer for Hong Kong SAR
Loving God, our heavenly Father,
We pray for the people of Hong SAR, we pray especially for all who carry the burden and responsibility of leadership at this time of tension and unrest. May you imbue our leaders with wisdom and humility in all that they are called to do. May they seek to rebuild trust where it is broken and strive to renew a sense of community amongst the people of Hong Kong.
We pray for all who are disillusioned with the present and fearful for the future, may they be reassured that there is a higher power at work than can often be seen. May we again, learn to trust in you, Almighty God for you will accomplish all things according to your good and holy purposes. AMEN
