Jesus and me in Barley Mow - Fabio Vilela

We recently received this update from Fabio Vilela, CIEMAL evangelist from Brazil working with the Chester-le-Street circuit.

The harvest season came this year bringing to us some good fruits that filled us with joy. I have already shared about all the struggles we have had throughout lockdown to connect with people in Barley Mow. (See Lockdown, Lent and a Latin American Evangelist here) Although in every struggle, we saw God open a door for us to teach children about faith and reach out to them. We had a good response from the school and pupils when we set some packs of activities for lockdown. Ever since, our plan has been to start a kid’s club in the school.

We worked hard for about three months to recruit volunteers in our circuit, plan, share and start. Previously our plan was to work with year 5 and 6 only, but we decided to widen our range of age and included years 3 and 4 as well.

We launched the JAM Club – Jesus and Me Club – before the half term to start at the very beginning of November. It was brilliant. We reached 16 pupils in total who applied to be with us in our club that takes place every Wednesday after school. They stay with us for an hour to have fun, learn about Jesus and craft.

We have been amazed with their openness to God. They have been lovelyand attentive each week and engaged all the time. Our hearts are full of joy by seeing something which we were planning and expecting now taking place.

Please, stay with us throughout this journey, praying for our team of 8 volunteers and all the kids.

Blessings Fabio.
