The Nationals in Mission scheme is one of the many initiatives that has been supported by the World Mission Fund of the Methodist Church in Scheme. The work of numerous individuals in the fields of education, health, training, development and theological training has been supported through this scheme.
“It gives me pleasure that I can contribute to reducing the death rate due to lack of oxygen in Cameroon..."
Sophie EvakiseAmongst those that we have supported is the post of a Process Engineer and Operations Officer to work with the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon in establishing and operating the only Medical Oxygen plant in the whole of Cameroon. The rate at which people are dying in Cameroon because of the non-availability of oxygen is extremely high and the PCC Oxygen Plant is the only church-owned oxygen plant in country. Thanks to the plant and the work of the Process Engineer, oxygen is being made available to both urban and rural communities and is already having a great impact on PCC health services and on other health facilities throughout the country where oxygen is not readily available.
Thanks to the grant provided by the World Mission Fund, the Oxygen Plant has been installed, qualified engineers are being recruited and oxygen supplies are being delivered to health facilities throughout Cameroon.
Sophie Evakise, the Process Engineer whose work has been funded for the last few years says: “It gives me pleasure that I can contribute to reducing the death rate due to lack of oxygen in Cameroon and am so excited that the plant is functioning and that we have a team to facilitate our work. When this funding is ended, The PCC Health Services department will integrate my work and salary into the routine activities of the department, so that way my salary and the activities of the oxygen plant unit will be an integral part of the budget and activities of the department ensuring continuity and sustainability.”
Funding like this is only possible through the World Mission Fund which funds a wide variety of ways in which we engage with and support our global partners. Please continue to support the work of the World Mission Fund.
