INVITATION TO A TALK AND DISCUSSION

Peacebuilding in Colombia and the contribution of the Church

Bishop Juan Alberto Cardona
The Methodist Church Colombia
Thursday 6 April, 12:30 to 14:00
Methodist Church House, 25 Marylebone Road, NW1 5JR
(a sandwich lunch provided - rsvp. by 3 April to bennetts@methodistchurch.org.uk)

Methodists in Colombia are present in a number of marginalised regions that have most felt the impact of the armed conflict. The Colombian Methodist Church represented voiceless communities with whom it works as it participated in the Habana talks along with other protestant churches in Colombia. It encouraged its communities to support the peace process and to vote in favour of the peace treaty.

The Methodist Church will be involved in the reconciliation process that is now beginning as the disarmament of FARC soldiers gets underway and Colombian society faces the challenge of reintegrating those who have been aggressors back into society. The role of Colombian churches will be key as they seek to help Colombian society forgive and start a process of reconciliation.
