Please continue to pray for Haiti

Haiti continues to live in political, economic and social crisis. There is no political structure or authority at present that is able to maintain law and order in the country, allowing powerful and violent gangs to rule and reign terror in their communities. Gang violence against ordinary people has caused many people to be displaced from their neighbourhoods within Port-au Prince, and many are sheltering in community centres or others shelters that are not fit for supporting such large numbers of people. Rural communities are unable to sell their agricultural produce in the cities due to gangs controlling transport networks across the country. There is rotting food in the countryside, scarcity of food in the cities and food security is extremely precarious. Communities, including church and non-church members, local social services and others are turning to the Haiti District of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA) for support, particularly for food at a time of great food insecurity.

The MCCA Haiti District recognises that it is in a very difficult position, with its own membership, ministers and leaders facing the same daily challenges as their local communities. However, the church strongly felt it needed to respond in some way to the hopelessness and despair that is beginning to grow among our Haitian brothers and sisters. The Methodist Church in Britain has been able to partner with the Haiti District through the World Mission Fund. A solidarity grant of £15,000 has been sent this week to the Haiti District to enable it to offer a glimmer of hope to communities, by buying food for distribution and where possible, distributing cooked meals. The grant will be divided between 7 towns and will aim to support over 1,500 families over two weeks.

Please continue to pray for our Haitian Brothers and sisters at this time.

A prayer for Haiti

Lord God, creator of all peoples,

Have mercy and grace upon your children in Haiti.

Sustain them physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually as they continue to live in a desperate situation.

Please let them tangibly experience your great love for them as we declare and agree with your promise in Jeremiah 29:11-14 that says “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord…”

Please strengthen your people with peace amidst the political, economic and social turmoil and raise up leaders who have a heart after your own heart of justice, freedom and love,

Whose work will lead to a peaceful and prosperous Haiti for all Haitians.

We ask in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen
