Praise and Protest - kids edition
Hounslow Methodist Church – JMA celebration
How would you continue to praise if everything you own was gone?
What is the injustice in the world that you want to pray and protest about?
These are just two of the questions that we thought, discussed and crafted about, as the young people involved in Junior Mission for All (JMA) and the work that they support was celebrated at Hounslow Methodist Church on 29 Sept 2024.
Using the Global Relationships worship resource on Praise and Protest Global Relationships Resources - Methodist Church , we learnt about the worship in refugee camps in Namibia served by the Methodist Church and how Methodists in the pacific are raising their voice about climate change, colonialism and gender based violence. We heard and saw how the funds raised in JMA go to the World Mission Fund and support all the ways in which we connect around the world. World Mission Fund - Methodist Church
The words of Mary from Luke rang in our ears as we made people of praise and banners of protest:
To PRAISE! Luke 1 vs 47 (NRSV) ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.’
To PRAY and PROTEST! Luke 1vs 52 (NRSV) ‘ He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly,’
The JMA collectors at Hounslow Methodist Church have raised over £1000 pounds to support mission work in Britain and Worldwide this year, through their hard work and the work of their leaders.
In our prayers we remembered all the different places around the world in our hearts and lifted them up to God.
We had a wonderful all age service together. If you would like a speaker for your JMA or World Church service please get in touch with the Global Relationships team: gr.admin@methodistchurch.org.uk
