Please pray for Haiti

These months of September, October and November have been very difficult here with many demonstrations all across the country mostly every week.  The pattern has been completely unpredictable. Some days are quiet and other days make reliable travel throughout the country completely impossible. The level of violence has also increased with more frequent roadblocks, rock throwing and sporadic gunfire and so on…we are facing a lot of difficulties. In every circuit people are crying out for help and food. That is one of the reasons the Haitian government is asking the US government to come and help us in humanitarian support. Day and night people are coming to the ministers’ office in circuits to seek for support.

As we begin this month we hope for a better moment all around”.

Bishop Jean-Lesley Dorcely of the Haiti District in the Caribbean and the Americas shared this update with us on the current situation in Haiti. USAIDS’ Famine Early Warning Systems Network says that Haiti is currently in a stressed or crisis phase of food insecurity.  The Gourde has depreciated against the US Dollar and the Dominican Peso, while food prices have increased. Protests against corruption of Jovenel Moïse and his administration are ongoing. They have crippled local commerce, prevented about 2 million children from accessing schools and have severely limited access to healthcare. Insecurity, high fuel prices and roadblocks are preventing aid agencies from operating and offering humanitarian assistance.

Please pray for Haiti and the Haiti District:

I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world! (John 16:33 NRSV)

Dear Lord,

We bring before you our prayers of intercession for Haiti and the Haiti District. We are grieved to hear of our brothers and sisters suffering such great need.

We ask that you would help the nation overcome this political and economic crisis to alleviate the suffering of the people.

We ask that you grant those in positions of power greater wisdom, a heart of compassion and a desire to serve the needs of the population.

We ask that the Haitian government will listen to the voices of fellow citizens and act in their best interests.

We pray that the international community will begin to rally and offer effective support for Haiti and that aid agencies will once again be able to operate in the country.

We pray specially for the Haiti District and ask that you provide for their needs so that they may support those seeking assistance from circuits across the District.  We pray that you will enable the church to meet the pastoral needs of their local communities.

May they be able to give the people hope where there is none.

May they be able to continue being witnesses of God’s faithfulness and love to the Haitian people.

May they not become discouraged by the suffering they are seeing and experiencing, but may their trust in you, faith, hope and love carry them through these desperate times.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
