Who Cares?

“It’s often difficult to think what to say or pray when someone has suffered some trauma or loss event but (I) found these discussions really helpful.”

This series of four 2-hour sessions introduces participants to pastoral practice, drawing on insights and underpinning knowledge in the areas below. With suggested pre and post-session learning and reflection, these sessions will set churches and Methodist communities on a sound footing to envision and enable pastoral support in their context.

Session details (it is strongly recommended that participants attend all 4 sessions)

Session 1: Introduction to Pastoral Care

Session 2: Welcome and Hospitality in Pastoral Care

Session 3: Listening and Prayer in Pastoral Practice

Session 4: Care in Difficult Times and Self-care in Pastoral Practice

The Learning Network will be running this course online in October/November 2024 and June 2025. All sessions will take place on Zoom, from 7-9pm.

In January/March 2025 we will be hosting an online book group, looking at Michael Hopkin’s “Pastoral Care in Practice” together.[RG1]

The Last Taboo

Death: is it the last Taboo for you? or for others?

"Useful content, delivered with care and sensitivity. Thoughtful, and thought provoking."

Participant

Delivered in partnership with MHA, The Last Taboo is a half-day workshop all about death and dying. Designed for pastoral visitors, carers and ministers, participants explore how to:

  • talk about death and dying with confidence
  • care for others as they prepare for death
  • create a positive, loving environment when someone is dying

"The course was thought provoking. The approach enabled me to reflect on my own concerns about death and dying without telling [us] what to think. I really appreciated being given space to make sense of my views and experiences. The use of stories to illustrate the points being made assisted my learning."
