Changes to Funeral numbers

From Step 3, (no earlier than 17 May) the limit of 30 people attending a funeral will be removed – this will allow for as many people to attend a funeral as can be safely accommodated, and those attending will be advised to follow social distancing guidelines to minimise transmission risks. 

The new changes at Step 3 only affect the limit on numbers of attendees, and any change to what you can do at a funeral (such as singing) will reflect the wider scheduled changes to guidance for places of worship and performing arts. The new changes also do not apply to commemorative events to celebrate the life of someone who has passed away, such as wakes – these will still be limited to up to 30 attendees from Step 3. The guidance for funerals will be updated in due course.
