Important security guidance for online meetings

As the coming days will be a busy time for churches and there may be a number of online services on offer, we wanted to remind churches to check their security settings for streaming services.

We are aware of recent incidents of Zoom-bombing, where a user hijacks a meeting and shares inappropriate or offensive material (usually pornography). In order to prevent incidences such as these, we recommend enabling the following best practice security settings:

  1. Where possible, use the webinar function rather than the meeting function as this has more security features and prevents users for overriding them.
  2. If the meeting function is being used, ensure that screen sharing is limited to the host or co-hosts.
  3. Enable the waiting room as this allows you to screen participants and control who joins the meeting.
