Intercultural Preaching Events from the College of Preachers and the Baptist Union of Great Britain
Webinar, Tuesday 4 May, 19.30-20.30 | via Zoom
Are we aware of how our own cultural experiences and worldview affect our reading of the Bible and our preaching? It is all too easy to fall into thinking that our experience is 'normal' and shared by everyone. But in reality, our experiences and understanding of the world are shaped by many factors, including race, socio-economic status, gender, denomination, and theology.
Only when we take time to hear and understand one another's cultural experiences and viewpoint can we truly recognise that we are part of a diverse global Church and unlock the wisdom that exists within the whole company of Christ.
Pam Searle, one of the editors of the newly released book, Intercultural Preaching, will introduce the thinking behind the book, after which two contributors to the text of Intercultural Preaching, the Revd Wale Hudson-Roberts and Eleasah Louis, will be joined by the Rt Revd Dr John Perumbalath, Anglican Bishop of Bradwell, in a discussion on intercultural preaching, chaired by the Revd Canon Dr Vicky Johnson, Precentor at York Minster.
Our panel of speakers will discuss what we mean when we talk about intercultural preaching, how we can share insights across cultures, and why intercultural preaching and dialogue are needed in the Church today.
This webinar is being offered free of charge, but booking is essential.
