Updated Guidance
We have received several queries about the new rule of 6 and how it impacts churches. The government has yet to publish more specific guidelines but based on the brief information received, it is our understanding that the number relates to the maximum group size before they come into church and therefore can sit together in church. It is not a directive to sit people together in groups of 6 as part of worship. You can continue to space chairs and people as before with 2m distancing between household groups, which could be individuals, couples, larger families, etc.
In the meantime, it is recommended to read through the links below for more information regarding permitted activities:
- FAQ’s of What You Can and Can’t Do (specifically sections 2.8 – 2.12)
- Safe Use of Multi-Purpose Facilities (specifically sections 2a, 3a, 3c, 3d)
- Guidance for the Phased Return of Sport & Recreation (regarding exercise and fitness groups)
- Working Safely in the Performing Arts (regarding choirs and drama groups)
- Safe Use of the Places of Worship (recommended checking regularly for updates)
The government has emphasised that venues must be Covid-19 Secure by following the Priority Actions and contact details must be left for Test and Trace.
As well, new guidance has been produced for the following:
- Guide to Harvest Celebrations, Decorations and Donations
- Guide to Church Council & Other Church Meetings
We are working on new guidance on Toddler Groups, Food & Drink and Choir & Drama Groups with an aim to publish next week.
