Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man. (v. 20)
"... This poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” (vs 43-44)
He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. (v. 7)
In your humanity, incarnate God, you walked this earth,
Promised through the prophets as the wonderful counselor, the prince of peace.
[Jesus] left that place and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded... And he was amazed at their unbelief. (vs 1-2, 6)
Jesus said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy he has shown you.” (v. 19)
[Jesus] said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” (v. 34)
When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” (v. 43)
[Jesus] also said, “The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how." (vs 26-27)
"Let anyone with ears to hear listen!" (v. 23)
[Jesus] woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” (vs 39-41)
Gracious God,
Your Son Jesus has called us to be his friends and in friendship to love one another.
We pray that we might recognise and grasp all opportunities to grow closer to one another in your name.
