…the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. (v. 2b)

‘But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.’ (v. 7)

Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, 'I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all the kingdoms that were oppressing you.' ( v. 18)

But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; they said, ‘No! but we are determined to have a king over us, so that we also may be like other nations.’ (vs 19-20)

And the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you.' (1 Samuel 8:7a)

When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, ‘What are you looking for?’ They said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which translated means Teacher), ‘where are you staying?’ (v. 38)

As Samuel grew up, the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. (v. 19)

'There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves.' (v. 25)

And Samuel said, 'Speak, for your servant is listening.' (v. 10b)

Now the boy Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favour with the Lord and with the people. (v. 26)

His mother used to make for him a little robe and take it to him each year. (v. 19)
