Painting Christmas

A Christmas resource from the Methodist Modern Art Collection (MMAC): Carols, Paintings and Prayers for Christmas (downloadable PDF).

An attractive resource for visual reflection similar in style to the well received Poems, Paintings and Prayers for Holy Week and Easter also produced by MMAC as a downloadable PDF.

Produced in 2020, when Christmas promised to be very different for many of us, the MMAC management team collated eight pictures from the collection and partnered them with words from Singing the Faith and Singing the Faith Plus.

Accompanied by prayers and short guiding thoughts, Carols, Paintings and Prayers for Christmas took advantage of our endeavours to explore new ways of worshipping online. Katharine Farnham-Dear writes, “Like all good art, the Nativity pictures in the Collection are not just visually attractive. They are often thought provoking and sometimes challenging.”

This resource not only introduces us to images that may be unfamiliar and stimulating, but also allows us to spend some more time with carols, old and new, and to experience their meaning and beauty afresh.
