- Bible Book:
- Genesis
"Do not delay me, since the Lord has made my journey successful" (v. 56)
Background
After Rebekah consents to accompany the servant, the caravansets out for Canaan. When they come as far as the Negev, they seeIsaac who had gone out "in the evening to walk in the field" (v.63). Rebekah alights from her camel and veils herself, according tothe oriental custom, before her betrothed. After Isaac is told allthe things that had happened on the journey, he takes Rebekah forhis wife, and he is comforted after his mother's death.
The theological motif of these verses and indeed the wholechapter, is that God will lead and prosper the one who puts theirtrust in God. It is expressed in the words of the servant: "Do notdelay me, since the Lord has made my journey successful".
