- Bible Book:
- John
"Thomas, who was called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, 'Let us also go, that we may die with him.'" (v.16)
Background
Thomas often has a bad press (because of his title - 'doubter')but here we see that of all the disciples he is the one who hasbegun to understand what it means if they follow Jesus toBethany.
Thomas urges the disciples to go with Jesus, even if it could leadto their death with him. These were dangerous times that neededcourage, which is just what Thomas shows here. Thomas was willingto stay with Jesus even when he did not understand all that washappening around him.
We are all complex human beings and amazingly made in the image ofGod. The different aspects of our personalities will often surfaceat the appropriate time, often surprising us ... "I didn't know Icould do that!" or "I didn't know I could say that!"
To Ponder
Give thanks and pray for people of courage todaywho follow Jesus, even when they know that the outcome could betheir death.
In what ways do you have the 'courage of yourconvictions' in everyday conversations with others?
One minute Thomas is full of courage, another heseems to doubt. How true is this of your life experience?
