Ideas for use

Hymns with a chorus, such as this one, can also work very well with children and younger people. You can suggest that the children join in with the chorus only - this not only offers an element of memorable repetition for them; it adds some variety and uplift to the congregational sound. (See Let the children sing.)

More information

Joy Webb was a Salvation Army officer who had success in the UK popular music charts as founder member (in the 1960s) of the Salvation Army group, The Joystrings. In 2004 she was admitted into the Order of the Founder (OF), the highest honour given to a Salvationist, for outstanding service. Major Webb was 'promoted to glory' on 1 October 2023.

Joy Webb's other hymns in Singing the Faith are When I'm feeling down and sad (StF 642) and I should like to speak to you (StF 522). For an account of Joy's chart successes with The Joystrings in the 1960s, see When I'm feeling down and sad.
