Hymn suggestions for Sunday 29 September 2024
- General:
- Lectionary
26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings are laid out as for the continuous form of the lectionary. Alternative related readings (OT and psalm only) are below. Hymns marked with an asterisk (*) are suggested for more than one reading
This is also the Sunday before 3Generate, the huge gathering of young people from the Methodist Church and beyond, takes place in Birmingham. A specially prepared pack, Being Wrapped Up in God, contains three worship service outlines (including specially selected hymns and songs) for any church to use in the weeks before, during and after 3Generate. The materials, which follow the Revised Common Lectionary, can help us all share in the same themes across the whole Methodist Connexion. Today's focus: "Small things have big consequences".
Our editor for the suggestions below, Richard Lockley, is a member of the Iona Community. A former resident musician on Iona, and with a close involvement with the community's Wild Goose Resource Group, Richard has included a number of options from Wild Goose publications. These include items from their most recent volume, This is God's World: "with themes from mission to mourning and the sacraments to the environment, enabling us to sing urgently and authentically in expression of perennial concerns and pressing issues of today".
