Saints - for all the (patron) saints
- Worship Resources:
- Articles
Singing the Faith has compiled a series of articles based on the patron saints of the United Kingdom’s four nations, and the music and hymn legacies they represent:
Saint David (Wales)
Saint Patrick (Northern Ireland*)
Saint George (England)
Saint Andrew (Scotland)
*Patrick is, of course, associated with Ireland as a whole
The articles offer a way into exploring just four of the different hymn-making traditions that contribute to Singing the Faith. They also begin to ask the question: what do the ancient saints have to say to us today?
Each of the saints is treated slightly differently:
- David – through hymn tunes from Welsh heritage
- Patrick – focusing on Irish hymn writers, with a special focus on the hymn Be thou my vision (StF 545) and the tune Londonderry Air
- George and Andrew – a little of their stories and suggestions of hymns that reflect their Christian examples
