A Prayer for Nelson Mandela Day

God Who calls us to action in your glorious world,
We are in awe of your gracious power to provide
For us in moments of despair, you provided
For us and our generations, people like Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela;
Who inspire courage, perseverance and unity of purpose.
May this Mandela Day galvanise us to action,
Reminding us that change “Lies in our hands!”
Change for better Climate Care,
Change towards Food Security,
Change that builds Solidarity with those who may be forgotten.

Grant O God in Christ Jesus,
that we seek to stand in Your Ways
that we act to dismantle poverty and inequality
that we provide within our means, resilient
and sustainable food environments.
Through Christ’s lament
that He was hungry and we didn’t feed Him,
that He was thirsty and we didn’t give Him a drink;
May we respond, join all our hands,
(As we heed Isaiah’s words this Mandela Day:)
May we feed the hungry and help those in trouble,
May we mind the gap as we accept ‘it’s all in our hands’!
Shine Your Light O God, out from the darkness
And brighten up our days,

In Christ’s Name, amen!
