A prayer for LGBTQ+ History Month shared by Revd Sam McBratney.

LGBT plus history month takes place in February each year in the UK. 1st February is also the Feast Day of St Brigid and St Darlaghdagh** of Kildare. The prayer below reflects on some of the gifts of Bridget, Patron of Ireland, and the ministry she offered, as well as the loving relationship between Bridget and Darlaghdagh.

Eternal fire of love,
in your light and warmth new life is brought to birth.
We give you thanks for those who, like Bridget and Darlaghdagh,
practice your reckless hospitality and outrageous generosity
in a world of fear and greed.
Continue to inspire us through the example of those
who refuse to conform to our stereotypes
or satisfy our desire for certainty.
As our faith has been kindled by the passionate fire of others,
so may our hearts burn brightly, lighting the way for others.
Open our eyes and hearts
to the glorious messiness of your creation.
Kindle our passion and restore our hope,
that our faith may fashion us as agents of justice and reconciliation.
We pray with all our friends in light and in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen

** - Darlaghdagh is pronounced: DAR-LE-DA
