A Methodist understanding of Justice, Dignity and Solidarity

Methodists believe that all people are equal in God’s eyes, that all people are made, unique and precious, in the image of God, and that all people are included within the gracious love of God, because of we are all children of God.

Different geographical areas of the Methodist Church in Britain come under different laws.  The requirements to Assess for Impact in relation to the nine characteristics identified in the Equality Act 2010, applies equally to the Welsh Language. The Equality Act 2010 (www.gov.uk/discrimination-your-rights) recognises nine protected characteristics. In Wales the Welsh language is equally covered as a protected characteristic. It is illegal to discriminate against anyone on the grounds of any of these characteristics. However, we believe we need to go beyond simply abiding by the law to ensure everyone can be equally and safely included in the life of the Church.

This strategy for Justice, Dignity and Solidarity asks us all to become aware of the history of how people have been treated, the attitudes and behaviours which cause harm every day for some people, and to do all we can to change this so that all people are equally welcome to participate fully in the life of the Church.
